We stood up at 6 Am and we did not see a bear this night. Later on we heard that she was here just after we left so we did not see the black bear.
First we went to the bakery to get some breakfast and they have amazing sorts of stuffed bread, we took a coffee and stuffed bread and then we went of.
We already knew that the Engeneer Pass was closed due to the snow so we planned to go over the Cinnamon Pass and return the same way. It is al long pass and the road is a rough dirtroad. We drove for half an hour and the whole car was shaking around. Then a light on the dashboard: tire low on air. We looked and the rear tire was a little bit empty. So we diceded to go back to fill it up because it was to dangerous to drive on. In Lake City we put some air in it en we went for a mining tour of a silver mine. We did the tour, it was very learningful. The silvermines are not like our colemines, they go straigt the whole way, while our mines go down in layers.
When we returned to the car we got the light again: tire low on air. So back again to the garage to fix it. De man found a big screw in the tire. He sealed the hole, and we had to wait a little time. Bartje was bored and watched the screws so no one could steal them.
Then we went up the mountain to see the Deer Lakes, it are not realy Lakes but reservoirs.
It was very nice upthere. Snow high up in the mountains, green wood, deer, sometimes a moose….
We also went to a place where Alfred Packer got lost in the snow in the late 1800’s and he ate parts of all the people (5) who where with him. Later on, when he was catched he told that he only killed one, in selfdefence and that the others died of the cold. But many years later they discovered that he killed all of them, because all their heads where crushed by one man with the same weapon. He did his time in prison.
Then we saw two streams coming from the mountains, the one had clean water and the other one dirty water in it. It a miracle how they flow. It flows always the same way. Later they mix.
We saw Lake City, it is a very nice little town, many old buildings. We heared some dirty talk about the population (thanks, Faye haha)
If anyone ever comes this way, it is a very nice place to stay, very nice people in it, they have marvellous viewes, deer crossing the town, you can see them laying in the backyards.
For diner Faye took us to a Italian restaurant with an authentic Italian owner, much blabla, smiling, shouting, but he cookes great meals! And we got a chocolate cake with our names on it.
Today it was a great day and we have to come back another time to do the passes.
Tomorrow we are leaving Lake City and we are going to Cortez, were we will sleep in a Tipi.
